Mohammed bin Rashid Business Award honours outstanding firms

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry honoured winners of the 5th Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award 2010. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, presented the trophies.
 
Organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the award ceremony at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai earlier on Sunday, was attended by heads of government departments, dignitaries, board members of Dubai Chamber, representatives of business councils, groups and trade centers, a large number of businessmen and members of the media.
 
In the Manufacturing category, Unibeton Ready Mix and Dubai Oil Mills were announced winners whereas Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries-Julphar received the Best Business Performance award. The National Bank of Abu Dhabi  received the Best Business Performance award in the Finance/and DIFC registered financial institutions category as Bank Sarasin-Alpen (ME) Limited, Sharjah Islamic Bank and Standard Chartered Bank were also announced winners.
 
National Petroleum Construction grabbed the Best Business Performance award in the Construction Category, and Vopak Horizon Fujairah received the Best Business Performance award in the Supply Chain and Logistics category whereas Federal Express International won the accolade in the same category.
 
For companies operating in Free Zones, Mars GCC took the Best Business Performance award of the UAE Free Zones Manufacturing category with National Fire Fighting Manufacturing FZCO (Naffco) and KEF Holdings winning in this category. Landmark Group bagged the UAE Free Zones Re-Export Category Best Performance Award and Danube Building Materials  also emerged winner in this category.
 
In an endeavour to encourage overall business performance excellence and to boost competitiveness, Dubai Chamber introduced new accolades to recognise the company with the ‘Most Outstanding Performance for the year’. This went to the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, which demonstrated exceptional business performance in addition to its valuable contribution to the economic development of the country. Additionally, the Business Performance in each category was also acknowledged.
 
Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, extended his appreciation to Sheikh Mohammed for his continuous support and help in providing a healthy environment to the private sector which he said ultimately allows the economic sectors to flourish and Dubai to take its leading position as a key player on the world economic map.
 
He stressed that the award, which was set up as a Dubai Chamber initiative in 2005, has over the years served as a strong incentive for private sector companies in the emirate to enhance their services and stimulate institutional performance. In its current round, the award has developed a new Business Performance Model which is unique to the region and is in line with international best practices as it creates global winners, he said.
 
Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Panel of Judges of the Award, praised the role of the award in stimulating economic development and extended his deepest gratitude to Dubai Chamber for initiating and sponsoring the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award for the fifth successive year. “All participating companies have benefited from this highly acclaimed programme. The winners have definitely set an example for others to follow as the participating companies will get accurate evaluation and feedback report on their performance and can come back for the award’s next session with renewed ability and zeal of competition.”
 
Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, announced the launch of the 6th round  which  will have new categories of Tourism, IT/Telecommunications, and Healthcare, a newly launched Award within Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award (Most Outstanding Performance), as well as the expansion of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award Club to larger participations from a wider economic sector.
 
Buamim also highlighted the importance of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award Club which he said allows all its members to enhance business competitiveness, adopt best global business practices and elevate business reputation worldwide. The Award Club, which is open to participants and new companies, is being enhanced for the 6th round as it encourages interaction, learning and cooperation and provides a unique opportunity to its members to network with like-minded businessmen all throughout the year.
